so i had another good class last night-learned some new stuff and got in some good mat time. At the end of the night I asked this guy if he wanted to roll. A white belt. He said he was tired and only wanted to work on technique and just "roll light."
So, off we go and he turns into charles bronson. He slams my legs on the ground, flies by my guard and before I can recover he's got me tapping from a choke in sidemount. So, now I'm ready for his "light rolling." I pulled guard. As he started to stand up I went for the standard from the guard collar choke with one hand on each side of the collar. Then he said,"Wait, I would appreciate it if you did not do that particular choke. I don't like it because it leaves alot of red marks on my neck. Also, it's useless in a street fight because i could just punch you in the face."
I could not believe I was hearing this. I just went along with it as I didn't want to make a scene but this is getting absurd. If you don't want to be choked, get another hobby!!! Also, I've been choked many times, once completely out, and I've never had it leave a mark. |

| ha ha. no this was actually the advanced class. Most people have been cool though. I think as Damon said people there are just really competitive. I told the story to another guy there and he said that is pretty common there for people to do stuff like this. He said often people will grab his shorts in the no gi class then get pissed when he grabs theirs. |

Yeah, I love guys like that too! I had a guy come into my school to roll. The first time I rolled with him I tapped him really easy (used a 'Tim Burrill' butterfly sweep to get top control). The next time I gave up my back (trying to go for a rolling kneebar but missed it) and when he saw a small opportunity to go for the choke, he went ballistic! He tried like crazy, he crossed his ankles so I applied the ankle lock with my legs over his ankles and really pushed but he would not tap. It had to hurt, but I let him go and concentrated on escaping the choke (which he was straining as hard as he could to keep/attempting to choke), so when I did escape and got top control he said "ok don't hurt me man, I was only doing what I know to do". In other words he wanted me to go easy on him, even though he wasn't on me. Funny

Advanced class? Sounds like it is a lesson in advanced bull****! If you need to use tactics like that, you need to give it up. |
