We were talking about Roger's family and martial arts lineage the other day. Here's a good article.

Apparently, his father is Mauricao Gomes one of five black belt under Rolls Gracie.
Here's a quote:
Interviewer: "Your son Roger Gracie is the current world champion and I heard he was the only fighter with the Gracie name in that championship. What are his achievements and his ambitions?"
Mauricao Gomes: "Roger last year won all the competitions he entered, like Pan American, World and other Brazilian competitions the year before. He did the same thing this year. He is coming to London in January 2002 and take hold of the Gracie Barra in London."
